MY QUALIFICATIONS

Having progressed through primary and secondary school, sixth form and then University for my first degree and PGCE before teaching, I have been in education as a student or teacher for my entire life.

For three years, I studied an English Language degree at the University of Chester and gained a First-class qualification. During this degree, I developed my subject knowledge of the complexities of the English grammar, early child language acquisition (whether babies are born with an "innate" grammar system within their brains), and how children learn to read. My First-class dissertation was entitled "A corpus stylistic analysis of the representation of villains in David Walliams's children's books".

After being inspired by working alongside many outstanding and motivated teachers in a private school part-time for a year while studying for my degree, I enrolled in the Post-graduate Certificate of Education (PGCE) at the University of Chester to train to become a primary teacher. I taught in several primary schools around the Chester and Frodsham areas and developed my pedagogical skills of how best to teach and inspire children to learn.

MY TEACHING

During my profession as a teacher and tutor, I provide children with a hands-on, personalised style of teaching, great subject-knowledge, and endless patience. Using the very latest educational tools and technology, the lessons I teach are customised to each child's strengths, interest and ability-level. I strongly believe that no teaching can be done if there is not a relationship of trust and support evident between the child and teacher. I am passionate about respecting every child and letting their ideas and feelings be heard.

I am a firm believer that no child should be "left behind" or feel as if their teacher has "given up" on them. My main teaching ethos is to provide children with the self-confidence they deserve, especially if they are struggling. By allowing a child to learn at their own pace and sparking their curiosity about the world, I aim to encourage a positive mindset about education.
